Believing in quality education for all our children, economic sustainability, mental health services, higher wages and job training, João DePina fiercely advocates for the community. João DePina, a proud immigrant from Cape Verde, has been at the front line of many battles for equality and accessibility in District 7 as an active resident of Dorchester. He has taken leadership to ensure the community is civically engaged as co-treasurer of the Ward 12 Democratic Committee.
Formerly a child in the foster care system, João DePina draws on his experiences to bring awareness to the many challenges facing children currently in the system.
His activism, sparked by challenges facing his community, thrust João DePina into a role of community advocate. His work with the Bobby Mendes Peace Legacy, violence intervention program and other civic organizations has provided João DePina with knowledge of issues affecting residents from various backgrounds.
As a small business owner, João DePina recognizes small businesses drive growth, jobs and economic vitality in our neighborhoods. He will work to ensure access to capital for small businesses. A vital community is a safer community.
João DePina envisions his office as City Councilor for District 7 as a clearinghouse for the community. He will be a voice for the district in City Hall, a voice addressing the challenges and accomplishments of a historically rich, diverse and forward thinking community. João DePina will fight for higher wages, job training, housing for all, small business development, criminal justice reform and mental health services. In essence, he’s the right choice for District 7.
